Selling RIPE IPv4: a seller and broker checklist

ELISTEKA · 26 September 2026

Prepare the resource facts first

Before discussing a price, list the exact prefixes, address counts, resource type and registered holder. Identify the person authorised to act for that holder. For several prefixes, make clear whether they must be sold together or may be considered separately.

A database entry is a starting point for checking the resource. It does not replace verification of the seller, authority to transact or the registry requirements that apply to the proposed transfer.

Check whether a transfer can proceed

Confirm eligibility with RIPE NCC before promising a completion date. Restrictions, transfer locks, resource history and the receiving party’s arrangements can affect the process. A transfer involving another regional registry requires checking both registries’ procedures.

Use the RIPE Resource Transfer Policies and RIPE NCC transfer guidance as the starting references. Confirm the current requirements for your specific transaction directly with the registry.

Document current use and handover

  • Is any part of the space leased or used by active customers?
  • Which ASNs currently announce the prefixes?
  • Are there existing ROAs, route objects, reverse-DNS delegations or geofeed entries to coordinate?
  • What notice or release arrangements are needed before handover?
  • Are there reputation or geolocation issues a buyer should know about?

Be specific about what has been checked and when. Avoid promising universal blocklist clearance or immediate geolocation updates: third-party databases have their own processes.

Compare brokers on the complete transaction

Ask who the broker represents, what work is included, when a fee becomes payable and whether the instruction is exclusive. Request a written breakdown of seller fees, buyer fees, escrow costs, VAT treatment and any currency conversion. An advertised percentage or fixed fee is incomplete without those conditions.

Agree how identity and authority are checked, who coordinates registry documents, and how the parties handle a rejected or delayed transfer. Escrow release conditions should match the written agreement and the evidence required for completion.

Separate asking price from expected proceeds

Your asking price is a proposal, not a completed-sale benchmark. Estimate net proceeds by subtracting the costs assigned to you from the agreed resource price. For multiple prefixes, confirm whether fees are assessed per block or per closing.

Submitting a resource to ELISTEKA

The Sell IPv4 page provides an indicative valuation and seller intake. Review the fee schedule and seller intake terms shown there before submitting. Submission is for review; it does not by itself guarantee a buyer, a price or a completion date.

If you are deciding whether to retain and lease your space or sell it, start with actual utilisation, collection costs and the work involved. The lease-versus-buy guide explains how to compare costs from a customer’s perspective.
