IPv6 resource planning
IPv6 /29 leasing for ISPs: capacity, pricing and requirements
A /29 is eight times the address capacity of a /32. It can fit operators dividing resources among many networks, but size alone does not prove the need for a larger lease.
When a /32 is enough
An IPv6 /32 contains 65,536 /48s, suitable for substantial structured addressing. A /32 lease is €29 per month ex-VAT with the first 3 months (€87) paid upfront. Compare your allocation policy and customer growth before requesting /29.
For a worked customer allocation example, see the IPv6 addressing plan for ISPs and hosting providers.
When an ISP may need /29
Consider /29 when multiple large address domains or downstream networks make /32 planning insufficient. A /29 holds eight /32 units. Prepare a clear subnet plan and operator details; Elisteka will assess the intended use instead of approving solely on size.
Published /29 prices
Monthly billing: €149 per month. Separate 12-month prepayment: €134 monthly equivalent, or €1,608 upfront. All prices exclude VAT. /28 and shorter prefixes are quoted individually. Published prices are not a guarantee of availability.
Eligibility and activation
- Send an IPv6 inventory-based request with the prefix size, own origin ASN and upstream.
- Elisteka manually reviews business identity, intended use, routing arrangements, acceptable-use compliance and verified aggregate inventory.
- Agree the lease and technical scope; activation follows the accepted service agreement and payment.
- Coordinate ROA, route6 objects, LOA if applicable and reverse DNS. A pre-handover DNSBL sample check is included; no guarantee of route propagation or reputation is made.
Proxy/VPN relay and spam uses are excluded; automated data collection requires separate approval where allowed. Check the Acceptable Use Policy.
Frequently asked questions
How much larger is an IPv6 /29 than a /32?
A /29 contains eight distinct /32 blocks. An operator should document addressing plans before choosing the larger size.
Who typically needs a /29?
An ISP or infrastructure operator serving multiple customer networks or addressing domains may need the extra capacity. Many smaller operators can plan within a /32 instead.
What does a /29 lease cost?
The published monthly option is €149 per month ex-VAT. A separate 12-month prepay option is €134 per month equivalent, totalling €1,608 upfront ex-VAT.
Do I need my own ASN and an upstream?
Yes. The application is reviewed for the operator's own ASN, intended use and an upstream willing to accept the agreed prefix. The ASN by itself does not provide connectivity.
Is a prefix reserved when I apply?
No. Only aggregate verified inventory is displayed; applications require business, technical and intended-use review, an agreement and payment before activation.
What routing work is included?
The agreed scope includes ROA/RPKI, route6, LOA where applicable and reverse DNS coordination, plus a DNSBL sample check before handover. This does not guarantee routing acceptance or reputation.
