RIPE resource sponsorship

RIPE sponsoring LIR explained: registration and responsibility

A sponsoring LIR provides the contractual relationship and agreed registry support for an End User's eligible independent resources, such as an ASN or PI address space. It is not a purchase of addresses and does not turn Elisteka into the registered holder of those independent resources.

What a sponsoring LIR does

Elisteka coordinates the sponsorship agreement, RIPE Database details and applicable ROA/RPKI, route or route6, reverse DNS and LOA tasks for the sponsored resources. RIPE NCC retains its eligibility and registry decision-making authority; the End User must provide accurate information and respect the applicable policies.

Annual fees and transfer-in

ASN sponsorship is €99 per year, existing IPv4 PI/legacy sponsorship €129 per year, and IPv6 PI /48 sponsorship €129 per year, excluding VAT. The applicable RIPE NCC per-resource charge is included in each annual sponsorship fee.

Elisteka's own transfer-in administration fee for an eligible change from another sponsoring LIR is Free. This does not waive the annual sponsorship fee or any legitimate charges of a previous provider, and does not guarantee a free or immediate switch.

Managed LIR is a separate service

An organisation with its own RIPE NCC LIR membership may instead need day-to-day member administration. Managed LIR costs €89 per month or €690 per year, excluding VAT. The RIPE NCC membership fee remains payable by the member; it is not included. Sponsored ASN and PI customers do not need a second Managed LIR subscription solely for the registry tasks already included in sponsorship.

Limits: what we do not do

  • We do not issue new IPv4 PI address space or guarantee approval of a new ASN or IPv6 PI application.
  • We do not provide BGP connectivity merely through sponsorship, or guarantee acceptance of a route by an upstream.
  • We do not automatically switch every existing sponsor at zero total cost; the previous agreement and resource eligibility must be checked.
  • We do not promise free resource replacement, lease-to-buy or automatic resource transfer.

Frequently asked questions

Is a sponsoring LIR the owner of my PI space?

No. Eligible independent resources are registered to the End User; the sponsoring LIR handles the registry relationship and agreed administration.

Can I move an existing sponsored resource to Elisteka?

Eligible sponsorship can move subject to RIPE NCC procedures and the End User agreement. Elisteka's own transfer-in administration fee is Free; annual sponsorship fees remain separate.

Is Managed LIR the same as sponsorship?

No. Managed LIR is administrative support for an organisation that has its own RIPE NCC LIR membership. Sponsorship is a relationship for an End User's eligible independent resources.

What does Managed LIR cost?

Published prices are €89 per month or €690 per year, excluding VAT. RIPE NCC membership fees are separate.

Can a sponsor guarantee routing or a new IPv4 PI?

No. RIPE NCC no longer issues new IPv4 PI, and neither a sponsorship nor LOA or ROA guarantees routing acceptance or global reachability.

Is switching sponsoring LIR automatically free?

Elisteka charges no transfer-in administration fee, but the previous sponsor's fees, termination requirements and registry eligibility must be checked. No cost-free switch from every provider is promised.
